In Vadodara decades ago crackers were made up of clay by potters which are eco friendly and spread pollution. But due to Chinese and other crackers in the market the traditional ones took a back seat and potters stop to make such crackers due to high cost and low sales. The work had stopped for the last 20 - 25 years.

But this year a Vadodara local NGO 'Parivar Foundation' start selling the same firecrackers made by traditional potters of the city. Working on Vocal For Local concept of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this NGO engage around seven to eight families to make the same clay fire crackers and provide employment to them

"The potters lives in Fatehpura Kumharwada area of city are very expert in making local crackers using clay. These people used to make different types of firecrackers but discontinued for last around 20 years. We start the tradition once again by engaging the potters to made same clay fire crackers once again and selling them to the citizens. There are total eight sizes available with us and people are purchasing the crackers again after using it once," Said Nital Kumar Gandhi President of Parivar Foundation.

Raman Prajapati, a potter from Vadodara, tells that this work was going on since the time of their ancestors and was stopped for over two decades. Now it has started once again with the help of NGOs, due to which they got a chance to earn some money this Diwali.

The NGO purchased firecrackers from these potters and set up a store in Vadodara as 'Desi Firecrackers' and sold them to the people. Nital Gandhi said these crackers are more safe than the common ones found in the market and also spread less pollution. What is more special is that the clay pots will be used as decorative items after colouring.
