Weary of being trolled on social media, a folk singer from Rajkot, Devayat Khavad, 36, has approached the Gujarat high court complaining that an NRI living in the United Kingdom, Jeet Modasiya, has been using abusive and threatening language in his posts against the singer on the social media platform Instagram.

In his two petitions filed through advocate Utkarsh Dave, Khavad has demanded the suspension of Modasiya's Instagram account and criminal action against him for abusing and threatening him from foreign shores.

He contended that as police have not been acting on his complaints made in Rajkot against Modasiya's actions, he had to approach the HC.

Khavad submitted that he is a singer of global repute and an extremely respected individual in society. Modasiya has started defaming, humiliating and threatening him on social media.

He has been continuously threatening and abusing the singer while going live on the social media platform. Modasiya's live-streamed videos are views by thousands in India and abroad.

As the singer enjoys a vast fan base, it is difficult to predict how his fans would react if an untoward incident were to happen in the wake of Modasiya's actions.

Beside the suspension of Modasiya's account, the singer has also demanded that all videos/reels that the NRI has posted from his ID be taken down.
