The state government on Saturday announced that the search committees to appoint vice-chancellors in the state’s seven public universities will be reconstituted.
After the implementation of the Gujarat Public Universities Act 2023, the search committees of various universities were dissolved as they had to be reconstituted as per the new rules.
These seven universities are the Saurashtra University, Bhavnagar University, Kutch University, Baba Saheb Ambedkar University, Uttar Gujarat University, Junagadh University, and the Sardar Patel University.
Sources said that the new search committees will be headed by a representative from the University Grants Commission, one academician and a reputed person as members.
The government has ordered these seven universities to finalize the names of the members within the next one and a half months.
The new VCs will have a tenure of five years which used to be three years earlier.
