Six Gujaratis who went missing during a trip to Istanbul, Turkey, are expected to return home shortly, according to authorities. The six individuals are members of two families who live in a Gandhinagar village.
The incident came after four members of a Gujarat family died of frostbite along the US-Canada border while reportedly attempting to illegally enter the US.
The six people, including a minor boy and a girl, are residents of a village in Gandhinagar's Kalol taluka and had travelled to Istanbul on a visitor's visa earlier this month, according to senior Ahmedabad Police officials.
The authorities, on the other hand, declined to say if Istanbul was the two families' final destination or merely a pit stop on their way to another country.
A senior official of Ahmedabad Police's Crime Branch said, "After it was reported that the two families went untraceable, we reached out to their relatives in Ahmedabad, who told us that they have been found in a hotel in Istanbul and will return to Ahmedabad in the next two to three days. The families will report to Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), wherein details of their travel will be recorded. The investigation is in its primary stage and we don't know yet where these two families intended to go from Turkey."
