Lalji Pandey had suffered injuries in his legs after a lift in a commercial complex on Ajwa Road crashed to the ground floor on Saturday. Pandey and three others from his family were in the lift.

A complaint has been filed at Panigate police station to investigate if there was any negligence on the part of the management of the complex.

Pandey's son has an office in the complex and he was to visit it with his family, including his son and two grand-daughters.

When the lift reached the third floor, some technical snag occurred and it came crashing down to the ground floor.

Fire brigade personnel rescued the four from the lift. Pandey suffered grievous injuries in his legs and was admitted to the hospital where he died on Sunday.

Investigations are on to ascertain if the lift was in bad condition and not maintained properly.

Firemen regularly conduct audits of buildings and issue notices if the lifts are not maintained by the management.
