A first of its kind Saree library starts in Vadodara by eight women under the banner of Ashta Saheli group. The aim is to give women specially from middle class families to enjoy their auspicious occasions by taking good saree from the library at very low rent.

Two years into existence, the group consists of Hema Chauhan, Rita Vithalani, Sadhana Shah, Neela Shah, Neelima Shah, Twinkle Patel, Gopi Patel, Parul Parikh and Deepti Chauhan comes up with this novel idea to spread smiles on people who somehow can't afford such luxury.

"We all are a group of businesswomen and housewives and engage in lots of social activities. Saree library concept is to help those who can't afford costly sarees and dresses, specially middle class families. A person can take maximum of three sarees with a minimum deposit. We give a seven days limit and on return will refund the amount after deducting the laundary charges," said Hema Chauhan.

Presently they have 200 to 250 dress, chaniya cholis and sarees all above 2500 rupees in their library. The good condition sarees like Banarasi, Chiffon and embroidery dress are donated by women and well wishers. The costly among them is a dress worth around one lakh.

Hema Chauhan further states that evey six months they will arrange free sale of sarees on first come basis. In future they will include matching purses and bangles with the dress and sarees to make it a complete set.
