The city’s famed riverfront is set to be extended by 22km, up to the Pethapur thermal power plant in Gandhinagar.
The project, to be executed in five stages (Phases 3 to 7), will improve connectivity between various areas and reduce traffic congestion.
The total length of the riverfront after the extension will be 38.5km, making it the world’s longest riverfront, according to the senior urban development department officials.
The ambitious plan will be spearheaded by the state govt through the Gujarat Urban Development Company Ltd (GUDCL), the nodal agency.
The project will involve Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), which has already developed 11km of the riverfront in Phase 1 and is working on developing a 5.5-km stretch between Subhash Bridge and Indira Bridge in Phase 2.
