A retired jawan of the Assam Rifles was arrested late on Sunday allegedly for selling weapons and forged gun licences to people from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana.
Sola police apprehended Pratik Chaudhary, a 33-year-old from Gandhinagar, with 10 .32 calibre revolvers, a .32 pistol, and 200 rounds of ammunition, together worth Rs 7.43 lakh. Seven people who had procured weapons from him were also caught.
Sola police officers said they got a tip-off that Chaudhary was driving a car carrying illegal weapons between Vaishnodevi Circle and Bhadaj Circle.
They intercepted and inspected the vehicle to find a .32 revolver, 12 rounds, and four spent cartridges in his car.
During initial questioning, Chaudhary revealed that he had been collaborating with an individual named Raspal Singh alias Fauji from Jammu, who assisted him in purchasing weapons from Mahindar Kotwal in Jammu.
Chaudhary admitted to supplying around 10 firearms and counterfeit gun licences to people in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana.
