Reliance Retail Ventures-backed FMCG company, Reliance Consumer Products, may soon enter the fast-growing ice cream market with a new brand "Independence", which was launched in Gujarat last year.
Sources privy to the developments said the company is in talks with a Gujarat-based ice cream manufacturer to outsource production.
Industry experts say Reliance's entry will intensify competition in the organized ice-cream market.
An email questionnaire sent to RIL went unanswered.
Sources said the company, which aims to provide indigenously developed products in the FMCG segment, is at the final stages of negotiations with the Gujarat-based ice cream manufacturer, so it can launch its ice-cream this summer, through its dedicated grocery retail outlets.
The Independence brand provides products such as edible oils, pulses, grains and packaged foods.
