Routine life was paralyzed in the temple town Dwarka as well as Porbandar after extremely heavy rain battered three coastal districts of Saurashtra in 24 hours ending Friday 10pm.

Dwarka, which is visited by lakhs of pilgrims, was under waist-high water after being lashed by 344mm of rainfall from 6am to 10pm. The situation turned grim as the town got 230mm in just two hours from 4pm to 6pm.

A car was swept away in turbulent waters near a hotel in Bhatia town near Dwarka. The NDRF team rescued one of them and a search is on for the other.

Porbandar town was converted into an island and taluka villages were marooned after 565mm of rainfall brought life to a standstill.

The coastal town was pounded by 350mm of rainfall on Thursday and another 215 on Friday.
