Vadodara's Sayaji Hospital, the largest in Central Gujarat during the Corona era, has written many successful stories of prolonging the life span of patients by dedicated treatment of the deadly Corona. Adding to the list on Thursday one more patient Pushpaben Tadvi of Gabhana village in Garudeshwar taluka of Narmada district was discharged from the hospital. Due to Corona her lungs were damaged and she was under treatment for more than three months.
Pushpaben remained under treatment at Samaras Hospital and then at Sayaji Hospital for about 119 days from April 30 to August 26. Of these, she stayed on ventilator for about 77 days. This case of record long and dedicated treatment is sure to be unique in the history of treatment services of government hospitals in Gujarat.
This patient was admitted to Samaras Hospital on April 30 in Corona infected condition, her condition was critical and lungs had been damaged by about 85 per cent, said Dr. O.B. Belim incharge of Covid ward. He said that her RTPCR report on Corona had turned negative in May, but needs ventilator treatment as her lungs became almost ineffective due to Corona.
Pushpaben was shifted to Sayaji Hospital as the last patient on June 11 when the Samaras extension facility was closed due to declining number of patients.
Here her respiratory ICU (R.I.C.U.) ventilator treatment was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Jayant Chauhan's team. Dr. Pinkesh Rathwa, Dr. Priyanka Patel, Dr. Aslam Chauhan, nursing and support staff of the team treated her relentlessly with the determination to revive her and increased the morale of patient.
Expensive antibiotics and injections were given to repair the damaged lungs, to make them functional again, to lower the blood pressure of the lungs, to rehabilitate them by preventing fibrosis.
Eventually the struggle and Pushpaben's firm fight against brought color and she recovered after a long treatment and was discharged from the hospital, creating an emotional atmosphere. Tears of gratitude flowed like pearls in the eyes of the patient and relatives, while in the eyes of the doctors and staff there was a tinge of joy at the hard work of saving someone's life.
The 38-year-old patient is a government servant as Talati. The eyes were wet on both sides only the reasons were different. Team Sayaji has once again set an example of unparalleled dedication to government healthcare by winning Pushpabahen's battle of corona and allied diseases.
