The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the city crime branch late on Saturday night caught a man from the CTM area with mephedrone worth Rs 1.73 lakh in his possession.
According to an FIR filed with Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Sunday, a head constable with SOG, Dashrath Mansinh, the complainant in the case, received an input that a man was selling mephedrone near Astodia Darwaza area.
A team of SOG cops along with two panch witnesses and a forensic expert reached the spot and found a man named Vishal Vora, 40, a resident of Takshashila Mahadev Green flats in CTM, standing there.
According to the FIR, the cops frisked him and found the narcotics substance packed in a plastic bag.
Vora, a cab driver, told cops that he brought the mephedrone from a man named Umar from Shah-e-Alam and was working as a peddler.
Cops booked Vora under the charges of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and began an investigation.
