Just one Covid death in Ahmedabad after four days

After four days, the number of Covid deaths in the city fell, with one recorded after three days of three deaths each. In Gujarat, the number of such deaths rose from 10 on Friday to 13 on Saturday.

On the other hand, the number of new cases recorded in a day fell marginally, from 198 to 192 on Saturday. Gujarat recorded a 21% fall in new cases, from 617 to 486. The state recorded fewer than 500 cases in a day after 52 days. The reduction in cases is in both the eight municipal corporations and the rest of Gujarat, as cities accounted for 62% of the daily cases, the highest proportion in the past five days.

Apart from Ahmedabad, the seven other municipal corporation areas recorded fewer than 75 cases, including one in Bhavnagar, two in Jamnagar and none in Junagadh cities.

At private hospitals in Ahmedabad, the number of critical patients remained in single digits for the third consecutive day. The district including the city area had 2,152 active patients as of Saturday evening. Hospitalized patients make up about 5% of these, officials said.

Gujarat in the past 24 hours administered first doses to 26,874 persons, and second doses to 1.14 lakh. In all, 5.18 crore have received at least one dose, and 4.81 crore people have got the second dose.
