P V Murjhani advocate of the victims and Managing Trustee of Jagrut Nagrik Vadodara seek details from VMC about once again start the boating inside historic Sursagar lake in Vadodara. He send notice to the VMSS commissioner, Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman asking the details in view to avert 1993 like tragedy. He give three days time for reply or else approach the consumer court and file PIL in the high court.
On August 11, 1993, against the capacity of 20 people, 38 passengers were allowed to ride in the boat, which capsized resulting in death of 22 passengers and 16 people were saved. The victims approach the court and after the fight for 21 years the families get the compensation of 1.39 crores.
Now once again corporation is going to start boating again in Sursagar and P.V. Murjhani raised objection against the move in view of the passengers safety. "We welcome the decision and it's good for the people and tourists visit here. However we want a clear stand from Corporation about the safety measures, compensation is case of any tragedy and claim settlement in at least 30 days. I give them three days time to reply or else will take legal action as it's all about the safety of passengers and to avert the 1993 like tragedy where many people lost their lives due to negligence of contractor and the corporation," said Murjhani.
Meena Vavadia, who lost her husband in the Sursagar boat tragedy in 1993 also request the corporation to consider the safety of the passengers as she don't want that others too suffer like her to get justice after 21 years.
