Indian Coast Guard Region (North West) conducted an Awareness March in line with the clarion call of the Prime Minister to phase out 'Single Use Plastic' by 2022. The event was conducted at Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 09 October 2021 to raise awareness about alternates to plastic and encourage the general public to avoid "Single Use Plastic".

Over 100 ICG personnel marched through public areas with banners and placards as part of the awareness campaign, in an attempt to dovetail "Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav". The Awareness March was intended to attract the attention of the public towards the ill effect of 'Single Use Plastic' and the necessity to use sustainable alternatives of plastic.

On the occasion, Indian Coast Guard Units at various locations in Gujarat also conducted informative lecture sessions for school children on hazards of single use plastic and its effects on marine life forms. A bike rally covering the fishing hamlets on the coast of Dwarka area was organised along with a community interaction program with fishing community and they were educated on alternates to Single Use Plastic and their contribution in preserving the marine environment activities
