Two officers of the Gujarat police will be conferred the President's Police Medal (PPM) for distinguished service on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday.

Eighteen police officers will be bestowed the Police Medal (PM) for meritorious service while six policemen will receive the Home Minister's Medal for excellence in police investigation.

DGP Vikas Sahay extended his congratulations to those selected for the honours.

ADGP Khurshid Ahmed and Vishal Chauhan have been chosen to receive the President's Police Medal. 

Additionally, ADGP S Pandia Rajkumar, IGP Sandip Singh, and 16 others have been honoured with the Police Medal from the state.

ATS SP Sunil Joshi and five other police officers have been selected for the Home Minister's Medal. Joshi, along with DySP (GUVNL) Virbhadrasinh Jadeja, and retired inspector Sardarsinh Bariya have been awarded the medal for investigating a case where a nine-year-old girl was murdered then sexually violated in July 2020.

Their prompt action led to the arrest of the culprit, the filing of a chargesheet within 44 days, and the subsequent awarding of capital punishment by the trial court.

The victim's family was also granted compensation of Rs 17 lakh.
