Heavy rains lashed Vadodara city on Friday evening accompanied with winds and lightening. Lambodar group Ganpati pandal at Kalupura partially demolished resulting in minor injury to two people. People ran for safety in between heavy showers. Cars and bikes were broke down in between the roads as people left them and moved to safer place.

On the first day of Ganeshotsav, Vadodara witness heavy downpour late in the evening with heavy thunderstorms after unbearable heat during the day. The entire city was inundated with 2 inches of rain for an hour. There were reports of raining in most parts of the district along with Vadodara city.

The downpour started in Vadodara city after 8:30 pm with thunder and lightning. By 9:30 a.m., low-lying areas of the city were flooded due to non stop showers. Roads in MG Road, Chokhandi, Waghodia Road, Panigate Road, Ahmedabadi Pol, Raopura Road, Subhanpura, Gotri and other areas of the city were waterlogged due to rain water.

The citizens could not visit Ganesh pandals for darshan and Ganesh Mandals completed the aarti and closed the pandals before went home. were closed. Traders who closed shops early at night and reached home became anxious following the heavy rains that started in the city. The heavy downpour also exposed the work of corporation as city roads are flooded and make impossible for people to move.

It may be noted that the administration has been alerted by the district collector following the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains given by the meteorological department. The Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan also issued instructions to fire brigade to remain alert along with the GEB team.
