The scorching heat continued in the city with mercury touching 43.24°C, one of the highest temperatures in the past few days. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), it was 4.4 degrees higher than the normal.

The heatwave will continue on Friday, mentioned IMD forecast. The state capital Gandhinagar also recorded maximum temperature of 43°C.

The city roads wore deserted look during the afternoon hours as EMRI 108 recorded spike in heat-related emergencies.

According to IMD forecast, the maximum temperature for the city will remain around 42°C on Friday. 'Fall in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C during next 3 days; thereafter no large change during subsequent 2 days very likely,' mentioned the forecast.

The IMD gave yellow alert with heatwave warning for Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Patan, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Amreli on Friday, and Banaskantha and Kutch on Saturday.

Kandla was the hottest weather station in state with maximum temperature at 45°C, followed by 44.4 degrees in Surendranagar, 43.7 degrees in Keshod, and 43.4 degrees in Amreli and Deesa.

According to EMRI 108 emergency services officials, for the past fortnight the number of heat-related emergencies have increased compared to the previous fortnight.

City-based physicians said that fatigue, body pain and headaches due to intense heat are common.
