Gujarat: Engineering, pharmacy intake likely to begin in June
New Update

Class 12 science students whose results were announced on Thursday will have to wait till June for admissions in engineering and pharmacy courses.

Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), which regulates and conducts admissions, is in the process of preparing rules for admissions.

The process is likely to be completed by next week and then a booklet for the students will be prepared.

The admission process to enrol in engineering colleges begins with ACPC forming rules and then students have to register for intake.

Based on the registration data, ACPC prepares a merit list considering 60% of the Class 12 score and 40% of the GUJCET score. Then the students are allotted colleges.

There are about 66,000 engineering seats in 133 colleges and about 5,200 pharmacy seats in the state. Last year, about 36,000 engineering seats remained vacant.

This year, 26,000 students have cleared Class 12 exams from the A Group.

Sources said that even if all the students confirm admissions it is likely that about 40,000 seats will remain vacant.

The admission process was delayed last year too as Class 10 and 12 students were mass promoted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) due to the Covid situation.

However, GUJCET was conducted in June last year due to which the admission process had begun only in August and the students were allotted colleges in September.

This year, the Class 12 and GUJCET results were declared on May 12 but the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE-Main) is yet to be conducted.

Sources said that students of other boards such as CBSE also participate in this admission process.

Only after the ongoing CBSE exams end on June 17 will the ACPC be able to start the admission process.
