Launching the Gujarat Green Hydrogen Mission on Friday, chief minister Bhupendra Patel said that the state has set a target of producing 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2030 and has allocated two lakh hectares of land for this purpose.
According to state government estimates, the state will require $20-25 billion of investments by 2030 to set up just 1 MMTPA of green hydrogen capacity.
This initiative will include 8-10GW of installed capacity of electrolysers costing more than Rs 45,000 crore and 20-30GW of insta lled renewable energy capacity.
The Prime Minister has set a target of 5 MMTPA hydrogen production by 2030. Gujarat has set itself an ambitious target of producing 3 MMTPA of hydrogen to meet this target, said the CM.
Mamta Verma, principal secretary of energy and petrochemicals department, said the state has already floated a pilot project for producing 7.58 tonnes of green hydrogen per day and is also studying the feasibility of blending hydrogen with Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
