Gujarat saw a net addition of some 83,245 telecom subscribers in April.
Gujarat’s net subscriber base increased to 6.63 crore in April 2023 compared to 6.62 crore in March this year, registering a marginal increase.
This comes at a time when across India, the number of telecom subscribers declined by 7.9 lakh to touch 114.31 crore in April.
Net gains mainly by Reliance Jio drove up the subscriber numbers in Gujarat. The other players, including Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) and Bharti Airtel, posted a decline in subscriber numbers during the month.
Reliance Jio added some 1.35 lakh telecom subscribers during the month.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel lost a marginal 2,685 subscribers whereas Vi lost 80,791 subscribers.
BSNL on the other hand gained 31,174 subscribers during the month.
Industry sources said that most players have lost subscribers mainly because of automatic cancellation of inactive numbers. At the same time, key players are also losing market share to Reliance Jio, sources said, which further led to a decline in subscribers.
