 A fire broke out at a private hospital in Memnagar area on Wednesday following a short circuit in the air conditioning system of the emergency ward, said an officer of Ahmedabad fire and emergency services (AFES). No casualty has been reported in the incident.

According to the AFES officer, the fire incident was reported around 6pm on Tuesday after which the hospital staff informed the emergency services. Before AFES team reached the spot, the staff of Samvedna hospital for mental illness rescued 18 patients and moved them to an open ground.

A hospital employee first witnessed the smoke coming out of the emergency room and immediately informed the floor manager. The hospital staff evacuated 15 OPD patients and three admitted patients from the ward.
