Purvi Upadhyay, an inspector with the GST department, lodged the complaint, stating that the accused, Deepak Choksi, failed to pay value added tax (VAT) between 2005 and 2006.

Upadhyay said in her FIR that the government implemented VAT in 2003 and GST on July 1, 2017.

The FIR revealed that Choksi registered a firm, Deepak Zaveri and Company, on September 16, 2005, and obtained its sales tax number.

However, he failed to pay the VAT of Rs 59.30 lakh. Consequently, by November 30, 2010, the interest on the tax had mounted to Rs 25.46 lakh, and the penalty was determined at Rs 34.89 lakh.
