New Update

The tenth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat global investor summit, which was set to be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 10, was postponed by the Gujarat government on Thursday.

According to an official statement from the government, the decision was made after Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel evaluated the Covid-19 situation in Gujarat. The three-day conference, to which 27 countries had planned to participate, had been postponed. There have been no announcements about rescheduled dates.

While speaking to the media at the International Conference of Academic Institutions, a pre-Vibrant Gujarat Summit event at Science City in Ahmedabad, Gujarat government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani stated that, due to the current Covid situation, Patel has decided to postpone the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.

The government's decision comes after Gujarat reported 3,350 additional Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, including 50 Omicron instances. Even as the administration was preparing for the summit, five IAS officers, including those in charge of organising it, were diagnosed with Covid-19.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was reported in a government release on Thursday as adding that various global investors, chiefs of state, high-level delegations, and corporations from throughout the country had showed interest and registered to attend the summit. The CM thanked the partnering countries and participants for their interest in the summit and hoped that they would continue to do so in the future.

The conference has attracted more than 17,000 individuals and 7,000 businesses, and the Gujarat government has staged roadshows in other countries to promote it.

The ninth edition of the biannual summit was held in 2019, and because Covid-19 had postponed the tenth edition, the government had just recently begun planning for it.
