Doctors should implement the law prohibiting sex testing of foetuses from heart not out of fear - Shalini Agarwal

A special camp recently organized by the PC and PNDT Cell and the Health Branch of the Vadodara District Panchayat provided guidance to about 150 doctors in Vadodara city and district on the strict implementation of the law prohibiting sex testing of fetuses. Gynecologists, radiologists and cardiologists participated in it and got detailed information about the rules, registration and renewal procedures required to comply with the use of sonography and radiology devices in the context of the law.

Inaugurating the camp, Vadodara Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shalini Agarwal urged the concerned doctors to implement the law from heart not out of fear.

Citing her own example, she said that her sister and she herself got higher education and higher position and brought laurels to the family and village. At the heart of Indian culture is the spirit of respect for women, while the tendency to have the fetus sex tested and collaborate is reprehensible. Indeed, it is desirable that the social understanding of treating sons and daughters as equal and treating daughters as offerings to God be broadened.

Law Officer Arun Pratap Singh provided information on the implementation of the law and on the provisions required to comply with the law along with filling up the F. forms and resolving the doctors' dilemmas in this regard.

Jitendra Sharma, vice-president, Ahmedabad Fogsi, urged the district's chief health officer and the appropriate authority to maintain coordination to avoid the possibility of errors in the implementation of the law.

Further guidance was given by Dr. Sushma Bakshi, Chairperson of the Vadodara Gynecologists Association and the District Advisory Committee on this Act. Chief District Health Officer Dr. Surendra Jain emphasized on strict implementation of the provisions of the Act and said that the seriousness of heterosexual races should be properly understood.
