Air Force Association, Gujarat (AFAG) headed by Veteran Air Marshal PK Desai, is an association of veteran air warriors settled in Gujarat. These veterans who have served the nation while in service, regularly carry out activities to serve the Society. During current pandemic they distributed food and drinks/water to relatives of outstation covid patients admitted in Sola and Gandhinagar Civil hospitals. They have also distributed ration kits to poor families affected by the pandemic.

They have now initiated a programme to educate ladies and girls in poor areas about wearing of masks and menstrual hygiene. They are also joined in this initiative by Missameal Trust formed by Air Veterans and STOE Pvt Ltd, a firm established by Veteran Air Cmde Dharamvir, which manufactures masks and sanitary pads.

On 19 June, they launched the event at Ramdev Village in Satellite area as well as Bopal and Ghuma area and carried out free distribution of masks and sanitary pads. Senior cadets of No 2 Air NCC Squadron carried out education of women with the help of Mannequins. Mrs Neena P Desai, trustee of Missameal Trust and others distributed the masks and pads with the help of cadets.

These cadets were led by Veterans Wg Cdr Dinesh Vaswani, Ramesh Mehdiratta and Cadet Cpl Purvi Golchha. It is proposed to continue this drive and distribute 2500 pads in slum areas of Maninagar, Chandkheda, Naroda, Bapunagar etc from 20 June to 23 June. Besides free distribution, sanitary pads will also be supplied in future at concessional rate to promote menstrual hygiene.
