The seizure was made during the Covid pandemic in the jurisdictions of eight police stations of the eastern parts of the city.

The liquor bottles were seized in the jurisdictions of Bapunagar, Gomtipur, Rakhial, Amraiwadi, Nikol, Odhav and Ramol police stations.

According to police, except Gomtipur where the bottles were seized in 2019, other police stations seized the IMFL bottles in 2020 and 2021.

The Covid-affected years of 2020 and 2021 where restrictions like lockdown and night curfews were imposed on people, a free flow of liquor was witnessed which is apparent with such a huge seizure.

The eight police stations cover almost half of the eastern Ahmedabad which has a population of around 34 lakh.

Nearly 200 cops including seven police inspectors and deputy commissioner of police, zone-5, Achal Tyagi monitored the destruction of the liquor bottles.

The bottles were set on the ground in around five hours and a road roller crushed them in around two hours.

The broken glasses of the bottles and crushed cans of beer were buried in a pit dug in the middle of the ground. The police personnel also made efforts to keep the public away from this activity.
