Gujarat govt on Sunday announced transfers and promotions of 35 officers, undertaking the significant but long-pending exercise of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre reshuffles.
The announcements came a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed govt to provide a panel of names of IPS officers within 48 hours to fill up vacant positions.
Among other key appointments, the move sees key cities of Surat and Vadodara get new police commissioners, after much wait.
Anupam Singh Gahlaut, previously the Vadodara police commissioner, takes position as Surat police commissioner while Narasimha Komar, who served as the additional director general of police (administration) in Gandhinagar, will fill outgoing Gahlaut’s Vadodara seat.
The reshuffle also saw the elevation of IPS officers Manoj Agarwal, K L N Rao, G S Malik and Hasmukh Patel.
They have been promoted from the rank of additional director general to director general of police (DGP), but will continue to serve in their current positions, following govt orders.
Twenty-six IPS officers have been promoted in all. Chirag Koradia, on the wait list for a posting and who had previously served as additional commissioner of police for Sector-1, Ahmedabad City, has been appointed inspector general (IG) of police for the Border Range.
Om Prakash Jat, who was part of the Anti-Terrorist Squad as an SP, has been appointed as the new Ahmedabad Rural SP.
Gaurav Jasani, IPS, staff officer, DGP’s office, has been transferred as Anand District SP. Imtiyaz Shaikh has been appointed as the new SP of Chhota Udepur.
