786 MLD of sewage to be treated using bioremediation method

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to implement a new approach to treat the city's sewage before releasing it into the Sabarmati.

At present, 786.49 million litres per day (MLD) of sewage bypasses AMC's treatment plants and flows directly into the river.

To address this issue, the AMC's water supply and sewerage committee has approved setting up of a panel of five contractors, who will be tasked with treating the entire 786.49 MLD of sewage water daily using the bioremediation method.

The cost of this treatment is estimated at Rs 1,750 per MLD, which translates to an annual expenditure of Rs 50.20 crore. The AMC allocated a budget of Rs 150.61 crore for this project over three years.
