The death toll due to suspected and confirmed Chandipura Acute Viral Encephalitis (CHPV) cases rose to 61 in Gujarat on Thursday.
While the number of confirmed CHPV patients stood at 56, 27 among them are currently admitted in hospitals.
Overall, the state has reported 148 patients with suspected CHPV, among whom 61 have died in 19 districts and five municipal corporation areas, the state government said in a health bulletin on Thursday.
Most of the deaths have been reported from Panchmahal (7), followed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (6); Sabarkantha, Rajkot and Morbi (4 each); Aravalli, Jamnagar, Dahod, Banaskantha and Kutch (3 each); Mahisagar, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Gandhinagar district, Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Vadodara and Kheda (2 each) as well as one each from Vadodara, Surat and Jamnagar municipal corporations, Narmada, Devbhoomi Dwraka, Bharuch and Gir Somnath, the government added.
The 56 positive cases have been reported from Panchmahal (7); Sabarkantha (6); Mehsana (5); Kheda (4); Aravalli, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Dahod, Kutch and Rajkot (3 each), Mahisagar, Gandhinagar and Surat Municipal Corporation (2 each) as well as one each in Jamnagar, Morbi, Vadodara, Banaskantha, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Bharuch, Ahmeda-bad, Porbandar and Patan.
