The civic body's tax department registered a rise of 50.53% in its property tax collection between March 1 and May 19.
As per Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) statement, the tax department collected Rs 328.42 crore in property tax this year against Rs 218.17 crore in the same period last year.
Jainik Vakil, chairman of AMC's revenue committee, attributed the rise in collection to the civic body's advance tax rebate scheme. "The rebate scheme was launched on March 22. So far, 3.25 lakh citizens have benefited from this scheme. Around 55% of the total taxpayers paid their taxes online which is also a good sign," Vakil said.
In the same period, the tax department registered a rise of 86% in professional tax which stood at Rs 30 crore and 147% rise in vehicle tax that stood at Rs 23 crore.
