Teams of the civic body's health department sealed five eateries on Wednesday after their water was found to be unfit for consumption.
On May 12, teams carried out random checks on 58 food joints in the Shahibaug area and took collected 31 water samples.
Five water samples taken from food joints like Prem Mevad, Honey Breakfast, Pavan Sindhi Dosavala, Gopi Restaurant and Shakti Sandwich were found to be unfit for consumption and these eateries were sealed.
An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation official said the department started this drive to curb the increasing cases of waterborne disease in the city.
From May 1 to 14, city hospitals reported 395 cases of diarrhoea, up 9,775% from just four cases in all of last May.
There were 111 cases of typhoid in the same period, a 556% increase from 17 cases last May.
Jaundice cases in the same period stood at 48, up from 23 cases last May.
