12 types of crops including cereals, pulses, oilseeds and cotton were planted in 1,32,287 hectares of land

Due to good rains, agricultural activity has increased in Vadodara district and out of the cultivable land of the district, 1,32,287 hectares of land are being planted with 12 different types of agricultural crops including grains, pulses, oilseeds and cotton.

However, significant cultivation is of cotton, paddy, tur, soybean, vegetables and fodder and other crops are under cultivation.

District Agriculture Officer Nitin Vasava said that with the first rains in almost all the talukas of the district, the planting activity is expected to accelerate.

It may be recalled that out of the total cultivated area of ​​Vadodara district during the last three years, crops were sown in an average of 2,54,367 hectares of land during the kharif season. This research shows that so far this year, more than 50 per cent of the above average land has been planted in the current kharif season.

In the district, farmers have planted white cotton known as white gold, in more than 69974 hectares. The statistics also show that cotton cultivation is more than 50% of the total kharif planting in the district.

Nitin Vasava said that in the current season, the growing cereals in the district include paddy, millet, sorghum and maize, pulses, oilseeds, groundnut, sesame, soybean, cotton, vegetables and fodder have been cultivated.

Out of these, cotton has been sown in 69974 hectares, tur in 17548 hectares, fodder in 16145 hectares, vegetables in 12776 hectares, soybean in 9298 hectares and paddy in 5930 hectares. The cultivation of soybean instead of traditional groundnut and sesame among the oilseed crops in the district has increased significantly.
