Indian Artist Sayed Haider Raza died on Saturday, 23 July 2016 in the country’s capital due to prolonged illness.

The news of his death has come as a shock for the artistic fraternity of the nation, and across the world.He died at the age of 94.He was suffering from old-age related problems and was admitted in private hospital since last two months.

He made a mark for himself among the International painters due to innovative use of color and oil paints, his work had deeper meaning and involved elements of Indian cosmology or philosophy.

An internationally acclaimed painter, He was honored with Padma Shri in 1981 and was elected Fellow of the Lalit Kala Academy in 1983.

Sayed Haider Raza was also conferred with France’s highest civilian honour, the commandeur de la Legion d’honneur (Legion of Honour) on July 14, 2015.
