Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani flagged off the first Vadodara Full Marathon on Sunday starting from Navlakhi ground.

CM Rupani said that the organisers find the Marathon a perfect way to spread the messages of cashless economy and digital India. He expect Gujarat will run like Marathon on the path of development and next year the Vadodara Marathon will touch the one lakh mark in terms of registration.

2ebfa98c-757f-41c1-ba23-b9ec558214b6Early in the morning between the cool breeze the run begins early as the three categories 42km full Marathon, 21km half Marathon and 10km were flagged off between 5 to 6am. Later after a one hour gap the flag off of 05 km run, divyang run, javan run and torch of seva run was done by CM Rupani and other dignitaries.

Earlier between the race the sportspersons who took Baroda on the world map was felecitated by the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Vijay Goel. Goel praised the Marathon as the event not only spread the message of fitness but also the runners run with the messages of Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiate.

In the recent years there is a increase in participation in the events like Marathon and this time the run is with messages," said Goel.

Goel said that the run is also spreading message of health, fitness and Sports and their Ministry is also taking the initiative to help the sportspersons. "We are going to launch a portal or website where the sportspersons from 8yrs and above can upload their video and biodata of their games. The Sports Authority of India then contact and train them along with the scholarships," said Goel.

"The day of Sunday is Marathon day for Gujarat as two marathons one in Rajkot and second in Vadodara was organised with enthusiasm. The people are actively taking part in the run and it's good to see the senior citizens, Divyang and small children are running in the Marathon. The Marathon is the perfect platform for unity and spreading the messages of Digital India and cashless economy. I hope Gujarat will also run like Marathon on the path of development and next year Vadodara will get registrations above one lakh," said Rupani.
