The maximum limit of election expenses is fixed for candidates contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections by the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as well as the rules under the Election Management Rules, 1961.9

The Government of India has recently increased the maximum limit of election expenditure through publication in the Gazette and has published a table of maximum election expenditure by state. Accordingly, Rs. 30,80,000 for Assembly seat and for Lok Sabha seat a maximum limit of Rs 77,00,000 has been set for election expenses.

District Election Officer has directed all the rival candidates of Karjan seat and all other concerned to take note of it. Earlier, the expenditure limit for the Legislative Assembly was Rs 28 lakh and an increase of 2,80,000 was included in the limit.
