Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor, died in a car accident on Tuesday while undergoing treatment (February 15). According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Sonipat, Rahul Sharma, a woman who was in the car with him is being treated and is no longer in danger. On the complaint of Deep Sidhu's brother Surjeet, Sonipat Police have filed a FIR against a truck driver who, according to the complaint, applied breaks unexpectedly, resulting in the collision last night at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP). Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been used to register the FIR.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, SP Rahul Sharma said, "We got information that two people have been brought to the hospital after a road accident. The man identified as Deep Sidhu died during treatment and the woman is undergoing treatment and is now out of danger."
"As per investigation done till now, he (Deep Sidhu) was driving and the woman was on the passenger seat," Sharma said. He further said at the moment, the identity of the woman cannot be revealed as permissions are required. "In due course, we will disclose it," he said. According to Sharma, they were on their way to Bathinda based on the inquiry so far.
In January of last year, Deep Sidhu was released on bond in the Republic Day violence case. In April, he was released on bond. Sidhu was detained by Delhi Police in February of last year in connection with a case of Republic Day violence in 2021. On Republic Day, a farmer's tractor rally became violent after protesters arrived at the Red Fort. Farmers were protesting three agriculture laws that have since been overturned. Deep Sidhu, according to the Delhi Police's FIR, "instigated the mob not to follow the permitted route of the Kisan parade and breach barricades with tractors" on January 26, 2021.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, meanwhile, expressed his sympathies on the loss. "Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, Deep Sidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans," the Chief Minister tweeted.
