Relocation is being done at OPD 18 at present

Sayaji Hospital is the largest public hospital in Central Gujarat and patients from not only Gujarat but also from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan avail its life saving health services. The seven-day, 24-hour emergency ward of the hospital is currently being temporarily relocated from its original location as renovations and upgrading of facilities are planned at the existing location.

The department is currently located on the ground floor of a multi-storey building of the dedicated Covid Hospital in the Sayaji campus, said Dr. O.B. Belim, Acting Head of the Immediate Treatment Department and Administrative Nodal Officer of the Covid Department. He said that there are 3 different lifts from the ground floor to the top to carry the corona patients, and for the movement of health workers.

However, despite all the precautions, the risk of infection still remains there. Also, this section is very old, tiles, electrical wires, oxygen points, everything has need to be replaceable, so a radical renovation has been planned. Due to activeness of Dr. Vinod Rao, Officer on Special Duty and Education Secretary, the Health Department has approved this renovation on a top priority basis.

In order to carry out this operation immediately, the Emergency ward has been shifted to the large space of OPD 18 opposite the Superintendent’s Office. Care is being taken to minimize the inconvenience to patients during this shifting. By Tuesday or Wednesday morning, the department will be fully operational at the location mentioned above.

The electrical wiring, oxygen points, tiles, civil works, electrical works will all be done new, realising the key importance of the Emergency ward in saving the lives of the patients and the injured. Thus, the renovation will make it more advanced and convenient.
