Utters, A woman in a saree is a choice as a woman in a swimsuit

Ekta Kapoor, hailed as the Content Czarina is all about pushing strong women stories through her production and platform ALTBalaji. She believes it’s time to tell stories that give light to other issues women face and that cannot see the light of day because of societal stereotypes.

On being asked about her conscious thought behind projects like Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Lipstick Under My Burkha, The Dirty Picture and now The Married Woman Ekta Kapoor shares, “Yes, it is a conscious decision. In most of the countries, the sexuality of a woman is considered as sin. That’s a big problem and I was told many times that I was a big part of that journey – by showcasing women wearing sarees and sindoor, I have somehow stunted the growth of women in this country and I don’t agree to this because I felt that a woman in a saree is a choice as a woman in a swimsuit.”

She adds,”Like I said, I have told several stories of conservative women who have household issues, now it’s time I tell stories of women who have other issues. Every woman in different stages of their life have choices and it’s their choice. They don’t become good or bad by any of their choices.”

From being the strong foundation and backbone of Indian TV shows to now paving the path for unconventional, path-breaking content Ekta Kapoor is inevitably better than the best in this space. Recently, she also was honoured by a Hall Of Fame Award by the Indian Television Academy (ITA).
