University of Southampton to be the first UK institute to set up campus in India

The University of Southampton has become the first UK university to establish a campus in India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Ministry of Education has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the university, marking a significant step towards the internationalization goals set forth in the NEP 2020.

Ranked among the top 100 universities globally by the QS World Rankings 2025, the University of Southampton’s presence in India will enrich the educational landscape, offering students a unique opportunity for global exposure while receiving an education rooted in Indian values.

This marks the first time a foreign university has been issued an LoI under the UGC regulations for setting up Indian campuses of foreign universities.

According to media reports, the University of Southampton has been active in India for nearly 50 years, developing deep and mutually beneficial partnerships.
