The state government has prepared a draft on road safety lessons which will be introduced in the curriculum of government schools from the next academic year.
Road safety education will include the dos and don'ts on road safety, traffic signs and an overview of the traffic rules.
The use of zebra crossing, and ideal on-road behaviour will also be part of the chapters.
Other aspects of road safety like precautions to be taken while travelling to school and back by school buses will also be part of the curriculum.
The draft prepared by the state government says that parents and guardians will have to be sensitized by school authorities about road safety.
In higher classes, road safety education will involve enforcement of traffic rules, road engineering, education and awareness about traffic rules and emergency care in the case of accidents.
Students of higher classes will be apprised of the penal measures that the authorities can initiate against traffic offenders.
Students will also visit the RTO office and places where cops regulate traffic to understand the practical aspects of road safety.
The students will also be trained in offering assistance to the injured in road accidents.
