New Update

After student protests, the proctor of Delhi University (DU), Rajni Abbi, stated on Wednesday that offline classes will resume on February 17.

DU administration will release a detailed order on the directive soon. It will also provide the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that the students must follow.

Later, the administration will decide on the mode of examination.

Student organisations have been protesting for the resumption of offline classes at DU campuses for the past few days. During their rallies, the students used chakka jam and a hunger strike.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh of Delhi University informed news agency PTI that a notification for the reopening of the campus will be published soon, and that meetings with college principals would take place.

On Monday, day-long protests were held outside the DU VC's office over the same problem. The cops had evacuated the demonstrators by the evening.

On Tuesday, demonstrators from several student organisations, including the Students' Federation of India (SFI), the All India Students' Association (AISA), and the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), requested the reopening of the campus and denounced police manhandling of protesters on Monday. These allegations had previously been dismissed by the police.

The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on South Campus, demanding that offline instruction be reinstated. The ABVP and the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) began an indefinite hunger strike that evening.

The ABVP and DUSU activists conducted a day-long protest on Delhi University's south campus for the opening of the campus and colleges, following which the director of the university's south campus spoke to the students and collected their memorandum and demands, according to the outfit.
