CBSE Issues notification on textbooks for affiliated schools

The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a notification regarding the use of NCERT textbooks for classes 9 to 12.

The board has advised schools to follow the NCERT or SCERT books for students from classes 1 to 8. 

As per the official notification, amendments were made by the board concerning affiliation by-laws limiting the use of books by private publishers and emphasising the use of CBSE-prescribed books. Along with textbooks schools also use supplementary materials and digital content  as per the National Curriculum Framework - School Education. 

The notification issued stated that schools must mandatorily follow the NCERT textbooks prescribed in the CBSE curriculum and for subjects in which NCERT/ SCERT books are not available, the CBSE books uploaded on the website must be followed. Schools can also use supplementary materials as per the requirement.

The amended rules mentioned in the official notification state that regarding the use of Digital content, the same can be explored to augment the textbooks.

The supplementary material and digital content used by the schools must align with NCF-SE. Supplementary materials must aim to contain the essential core material including discussion analysis, examples and applications.

Schools are also required to publish the list of prescribed books for all classes on their official website with written declaration signed by the school manager and principal stating that they have gone through the contents of the books prescribed by the school and own the responsibility.

If the school is found prescribing books with objectionable content the responsibility for the content will lie on the school and action will be initiated against the school by the board.
