The Assam government has announced a new dress code for teachers of higher educational institutes in the state.
The BJP-led state government has released a notification regarding the dress code, asking teachers in HEIs to not wear casual clothes such as T-shirts, jeans, and leggings while they are on duty.
As per the official notification of the government, teachers will no longer be permitted to attend duties in casual attires. Only formal and traditional dresses will be allowed.
The dress codes for male and female teachers are as follows:
For male teachers
Formal shirts and trousers, or dhoti-payjama, No jeans, leggings, T-shirts, shorts, or other casual clothing
For female teachers
"Decent" salwar suit/saree/mekhela-chador, and other traditional attires
No jeans, leggings, T-shirts, shorts, or other casual clothing
The Assam government has taken this move to promote a "sense of decorum, decency, professionalism, and seriousness of purpose at the workplace."
