Protecting the environment is now a serious global concern and every year on June 5, the world celebrates World Environment Day and vows to preserve nature in its natural state.

However that is not enough and only if the younger generation is inculcated with the idea of environmental protection, it will develop an attachment to nature and a responsible generation will be formed whose habit is to protect the environment.

Something similar is happening at Don Bosco School in Vadodara. The school has planned to cultivate its habit in the form of a sacrament by combining multiple dimensions such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy utilization, utilization of bio-waste in the protection of the environment. The world celebrates Environment Day once a year, but the school celebrates Nature Worship Day every day.

In modern times humans have become so enslaved to technology that we are destroying the nature that protects the very existence of life. But there are also some people who thank the environment not just one day but for the whole life.

Don Bosco School in Makarpura area of Vadodara city is one such institution which not only nurture but taught the nature along with studies. The rules made by the school administrators and their activities work to connect children with nature.

School principal Father Tony said, It is imperative to give back to nature as much as we take from nature. Effective microbes are used for nature breeding and these micro organisms are mixed cultures of naturally occurring organisms that can be applied to enhance the microbial diversity of the soil ecosystem. A mixture of water, jaggery and effective microbes is used to treat trees and plants.

Rainwater is collected, filtered out of the chamber and restored to groundwater. The scheme is in the interest not only of the Don Bosco school but also of the settlements around the school. Through this scheme the bore of the surrounding settlements is recharged automatically.

Being nature lovers Don Bosco management use solar panels to reduce electricity costs. About 200 to 250 kWh of energy is obtained from 42.5 kWh solar panels. Energy is received throughout the school through these solar panels.

In addition, a small biogas plant has been developed for administrators residing within the school. The whole school campus is green. The trees and plants of Asopalav, including neem, help maintain the natural temperature.

Administrators and students of the entire school are working for the protection of nature. They work on the formula of togetherness to bring the change and conveys the message that school is the temple of Saraswati and also make it a university of nature education.
