Gives memorandum to the municipal commissioner demand cancellation of the project given to the builder
Displaced residents of Sanjay Nagar slums in Vadodara beat plates inside the VMSS compound in view of their demands.
They give memorandum to the municipal commissioner and demand cancellation of the project given to the builder and Corporation built houses on their own and give to them.
Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan had removed slums in various parts of the city to create a slum free city as part of the smart city project. The houses are also given to slum dwellers. Similarly, in the year 2017, the Sanjaynagar slum on Warsia Ring Road was removed and 1800 families of Sanjay Nagar were assured to be given houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
It was also decided that the rent would be paid by the builder at the rate of Rs. 2000 per month till the houses are provided to the displaced.
Even after three years the beneficiaries have not yet get the houses and for last six months the builder has stopped paying rent, sparking outrage among homeless people.
For the past one week, the homeless slum dwellers of Sanjay Nagar on Warsia Ring Road have been agitating for construction of houses and payment of arrears of rent.
Residents have started agitation by forming Sanjaynagar Vikas Mandal and this movement has been supported by the Congress.
On Friday an application letter was jointly handed over to the Municipal Commissioner by Sanjay Nagar Vikas Mandal and City Congress. The residents demand to cancel the project given to the builder on PPP basis and corporation itself construct the houses and give it to the beneficiaries.
City Congress President Prashant Patel, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Srivastav, Sanjay Nagar Vikas Mandal Samiti President Bhagwandas Ahir, Sanjay Nagar Vikas Mandal Women President Seemaben Rathore and a large number of male and female beneficiaries from Sanjaynagar arrived at the corporation with anti administration banners, posters and plates.
Residents beat the plates in the corporation compound and tried to wake the officials. They also chanted slogans against the corporation authorities and demand to handover their houses.
