Designers pay homage to crafts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) brought together nine designers to pay homage to the crafts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan here at the Italian Embassy on Thursday.

The fashion show was a part of the inaugural event hosted by the Italian ambassador Lorenzo Angeloni to celebrate the association of the Italian Embassy with the Heritage 365 exhibition which starts on Friday, here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

“I am very happy that it was a great possibility to use the beautiful garden (inside the Embassy), the olive trees make special environment and under this Indo-Italian environment, I think the collection was outstanding. This is the first time I saw the Indian designer collection on a ramp,”

“It is one of the initiatives that we are very keen to support in the fashion. We are a country of fashion and we are very glad to be associated with it,” he added.

Designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh, Aneeth Arora, Rohit Kamra, Rina Singh, Samant Chauhan, Sanjay Garg, Swati Kalsi, Swati Ubroi and Ashish, Vikrant and Viral of Virtues showcased their exquisite work on the ramp.

While layers dominated everyone’s collections, shades of Blue, cream, red and beige were a gentle reminder of the onset of winter season in the capital. Gujarati attires were given a modern touch with pants and shorts, while the male models flaunted Jodhpuri pants with formal blazers and sherwanis with panache.

The rendering of Madhya Pradesh was presented by Sanjay Garg, Samant Chauhan and Swati Kalsi, where the colour palette was black with silver, golden and white.

Gujarat followed through indigo story, with creations by Aneeth Arora, Rina Singh and Virtues.

Lastly, the essence of Rajasthan was captured by Swati Ubroi and Rohit Kamra and also by Rajesh Pratap Singh.

The entire evening, which was a complete fusion of different cultures, had live fusion music playing in the background giving the evening a rustic feel.

“Taking forward the vision of ‘Make In India’, we have seamlessly enlivened the innate intensity of Indian craft and textiles. The rich treasure trove of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh has been unveiled in the most magnificent manner through ubiquitous ensembles by these style gurus,” Sunil Sethi, President at FDCI, said in a statement.
