Dense fog engulfs Delhi-NCR, visibility drops

Delhi-NCR woke up to a cold day and a dense fog engulfed the region. Cold wave gripped Delhi on Wednesday as the minimum temperature dropped to 3.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, at Safdarjung, the city’s base station.

Visibility has reduced and the normal life hit out of gear due to the intense fog in the morning. Met officials said the minimum temperature was dipping mainly due to cold winds blowing from hilly areas and absence of cloud cover.

Very dense fog was recorded at Palam during morning hours, with the visibility dropping to zero. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange” alert for Thursday and Friday as there are chances of dense to very dense fog.

Last week, the National capital region saw continuous rains due to the successive Western Disturbances. Indian meteorological department had predicted that the cold conditions are expected to intensify in the Delhi-NCR. A T O I online report.
