At least two people were killed after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazaar area on Thursday morning (November 5). Several people are feared trapped under the debris, while rescue operations are underway. The incident took place around 9:50 am in Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazaar Metro Station.
Following the collapse, six units of the Delhi Fire Services, along with rescue vehicles, were rushed to the spot. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police and municipal authorities are also involved in the search and rescue operation. One injured person was rescued and taken for medical assistance. Officials initially feared that around 15 people could be trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate survivors and clear the debris. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, and the exact cause of the building collapse is still under investigation. The incident has once again raised concerns about building safety and construction standards in densely populated areas of the national capital.
