Vadodara SOG team on Saturday arrested a known cricket bookie from a highway hotel while he was betting on the India Australia T 20 match. They also arrested two of his associates along with 2.91 lakhs of items from there.
Based on the information the team searched the highway hotel Comfort Inn and found the bookie Timin Patel rented the room 127 for the betting. They raid and found Timin Patel, Harsh Patel and Urvish Patel all from Ahmedabad involved in live betting on the India Australia T 20 match.
Police recovered LED tv, laptop, communicator speaker phone, voice recorder, wifi dongle, 25 mobile phones including I Phone, chargers, keyboard, set top box, extension plug board from there.
The accused Timin Patel originally hails from Mehsana and presently lives in Ahmedabad. He is running the cricket betting business for the last one decade and with his friend in Surat put money of the customers on sessions and match. He voice record the deal and with communicator system and loudspeaker post them in ‘Play’ named software in the laptop. The software is specially designed for cricket betting where the bookies store details of the customers including their accounts. They give code names to them like KNS, HR, MD, MN, HI, SD, DNY, RAV, DS, HH, NL and post the deals with plus minus symbols.
The accused rented houses and sometimes rent rooms in hotels and run the bookie racket to hide his business. He was earlier arrested in Rajkot for the same matter and also in Ahmedabad for kidnapping and robbery. He also served three years jail term.
